Life throws many surprises at us, and while we cannot predict the outcome of any situation, we can take control of how we respond to certain situations. Counselling and psychotherapy can offer a space to explore options and help you exert your power of choice over whatever life may throw at you.By looking into our history, we can understand how this impacted us “back then” as well as how our experiences continue to influence us in the here and now.The first few sessions will usually be a space for the therapist to get to know you, and understand what brought you to therapy now. This could be a singular incident of trauma, loss, or mental health struggles, or it could be a more general curiosity to know yourself better. There's no right or wrong way to come to therapy - simply come as you are. Talking with a therapist can support change, self-acceptance, and self-belief.What is transactional analysis?Transactional Analysis (TA) is a type of therapy founded on the study of personality, patterns of behaviour, and child development. Many researchers, practitioners, writers, teachers, groups and supervisors have worked to research, develop and critique ways in which we understand human behaviour and psychology. TA provides a wealth of theory that provides a curious, humanistic, and ethical scaffolding for the therapist, who in turn will support their clients to connect the dots of their past and their present. TA practitioners are curious about why we think, feel, and behave the way we do, and will work with their clients to explore what this means to them. The core principles of TA are that people are OK; people have the capacity to think; and people decide their own destiny, and that destiny can be changed. It is important to account for how someone's family, culture, and wider societal systems impact who we are and what we do.

I am a Leeds-based therapist, currently in my final year of advanced clinical training in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy. I offer sessions online, or face-to-face at The Practice Rooms in Leeds. I have experience working in both long and short term therapy contracts. I offer a free 20 minute phone consultation for people considering beginning their therapeutic journey with me. To get in touch please email [email protected].I am passionate about transactional analysis psychotherapy, having experienced first-hand the profound and meaningful impact it can have on your life. My training, personal therapy, and clinical supervision, have provided space for me to understand myself, improve my relationships, and facilitate change. In turn, as a psychotherapist I strive to work with the individual to explore themselves, their history, and their emotional landscape. My commitment to working in an empowering and respectful way seeks to honour each individual's journey and process. I am curious about how our past impacts our present, and how we can explore this together in a relational and collaborative way in therapy. I have experience of working with anxiety, depression, sexual violence, relationships, family dynamics, neurodiversity, and grief.Outside of my role as a therapist I work for a small charity that supports women and girls who have experienced sexual violence. I am passionate about social justice with particular commitment to womens’ rights, trans rights and anti-racism. My work and passions inform how I work as a psychotherapist, and I am ever-curious about intersectionality and power in the therapeutic space. I also enjoy and take solace in tarot, film, and walking through the beautiful Yorkshire countryside.I am a student member of the UK Association of Transactional Analysts (UKATA) and International Transactional Analysis Association (ITAA). I abide by the ITAA Ethical Code of Conduct. I receive regular clinical supervision from a Teaching and Supervising Transactional Analyst (TSTA).Contact Helena

In my experience people often look for therapy when they want something to change - whether around you, or inside you…You might be quite clear on what you would like to get from therapy, or you might want to explore that first. It might be about healing, opening new options, dealing with anxiety, low mood, relationships, becoming even more of the person you would like to be or addressing anything else that life brings...I’m experienced and interested in exploring with you how the past impacts on the present. How the external world - others and the world around influence who we are, and how we may and or may not co-create what is around us.I base my approach in working with you towards your autonomy, freedom and choices in your life. From my experience this is a collaborative process and I’m committed to work through the challenges of this journey alongside you.As a counsellor, I place importance on building trust and understanding with you as my client so we can work together on what is important to you, in your own way, and at your own pace. I offer short-term and long-term counselling, and we can talk about your timescales and what you are looking for in having counselling. I want to support you to have more control in your life and that starts with having control in the therapy room.I have worked as an acupuncturist, mental health support worker and advocate for several years and have a great deal of experience supporting people through difficult times including depression, anxiety, bereavement, questions of sexuality and gender, stigma, illness and abuse.I have over a decade’s experience of supporting people through difficult times including depression, anxiety, bereavement, questions of sexuality and gender, stigma, trauma, illness and abuse and many other kinds of challenges. My practice is affirmative of LGBTQ+/GSRD (Gender, Sexuality and Relationship Diverse) experiences and informs all of my work.I have worked as an acupuncturist, mental health support worker, advocate and therapist for several years. I’ve learned the real value of collaboration in my work and involvement in social justice movements. My varied and in depth knowledge and experience of working alongside others gives me flexibility and range to fit what might be most useful to you.I hold UK Association of Transactional Analysts (UKATA) Diploma in Transactional Analysis Practice and I am member of UKATA. I abide by UKATA code of ethics and like most of therapists, I receive regular supervision. I am also an Accredited Member of BACP and abide by the BACP code of ethics.Contact Tove
